Brij Mohan Sharma, father of playback singer Neeti Mohan, has died at the age of 72. He passed away on 15 October, and the family shared the news on Sunday, 18 October, in a post on Instagram, where several colleagues from the music and film world left messages of support.

Sharma, a government officer and a writer, was the father of four daughters: Neeti, dancer Shakti Mohan, actress Mukti Mohan, and Kriti Mohan. The cause of his death has not been disclosed, the Free Press Journal reported.

Family remembers ‘guiding light’

The family described Sharma as a devoted husband and father. In the post, Neeti and her family referred to him as “the pillar of our family”, a figure who lit the way for them. They recalled his wisdom, kindness and values, and said his blessings and teachings would keep guiding them. They also wrote that his absence had left an emptiness nothing could fill. The note closed with a simple farewell: “We will miss you Papa.”

Condolences pour in

Members of the music and film fraternity reached out soon after. Singer Shreya Ghoshal remembered Sharma as a doting father and a warm, simple man, and prayed that the family would find strength, according to ANI. Actor Neha Dhupia sent love and strength to Neeti and her family, while actor and television host Maniesh Paul offered an “Om Shanti”.

Backing his daughters’ dreams

Sharma is remembered for encouraging his daughters to pursue music, dance and acting, and for standing with them as they faced social expectations and other hurdles while building careers in entertainment.

His place in the family was evident even during difficult days. At the time of Neeti’s wedding in 2019, he was reportedly in the intensive care unit, and her mother performed the kanyadaan in his place, ANI reported.

Neeti Mohan, an Indian playback singer, has also served as a judge on the music reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs. Her sisters Shakti and Mukti are known for their work in dance and acting respectively.
