India beat West Indies by 14 runs in Indore to lead T20I series 2-1; Abhishek Sharma hits 69

Abhishek Sharma made 69 off 30 balls and Arshdeep Singh took three wickets as India beat West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20I in Indore.

India beat West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20I at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday, 11 October, to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. India were bowled out for 223 in 20 overs, and West Indies finished on 209 for 7, according to the ESPNcricinfo scorecard and BBC Sport.

Abhishek and Kishan set the platform

West Indies won the toss and chose to field. India lost Sanju Samson for 3 in the second over, but Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan added 108 for the second wicket. India reached 87 for 1 at the end of the powerplay, the scorecard shows.

Abhishek reached his fifty off 18 balls and made 69 off 30, with six fours and five sixes. IANS reported that he became the fastest batter to 2,000 T20I runs in terms of balls faced, getting there in 1,024 balls.

India then lost four wickets for 20 runs, slipping from 115 for 1 to 135 for 5 in the 11th over. Tilak Varma (28) and Axar Patel (20) were both run out. IANS described a “late wobble” that kept India short of a bigger total. Prince Yadav hit three fours in an unbeaten 13 off 6 balls before Joseph bowled Mayank Yadav with the last ball of the innings.

West Indies fall short

Arshdeep bowled West Indies captain Shai Hope for 5 in the second over. Hetmyer and Pooran kept the chase alive, but Naman Dhir removed both. West Indies were 174 for 7 after 17.5 overs, with Arshdeep taking the wickets of Sherfane Rutherford (32) and Keemo Paul (10). Springer hit four sixes in his unbeaten 35, but the visitors finished 14 runs short.

West Indies had won the second T20I in Ranchi on 9 October by chasing down a big target. The fourth match of the series is next.
