Devotees across India are worshipping Goddess Brahmacharini on Monday, 12 October, the second day of Sharadiya Navratri 2026. The day falls on Ashwin Shukla Dwitiya, according to The Economic Times and The Daily Jagran.

Brahmacharini, the goddess worshipped on the second day of the festival, is described as the ascetic form of Goddess Parvati, representing the penance Parvati performed to win Lord Shiva as her husband.

Colour of the day

White is the colour most widely listed for Day 2. The Economic Times, citing Drik Panchang, named white and said ivory, off-white and pearl shades also fit. The Sunday Guardian also listed white, linking it to purity, calm and clarity of mind.

Sources do not fully agree, however. The Economic Times noted that some charts list a different colour, and a table in The Daily Jagran’s report gives royal blue as the preferred colour even as its text, citing Drik Panchang, names white. The Sunday Guardian said colour customs differ across regions and that wearing a particular shade is not compulsory for worship.

Puja timings and rituals

The reports reviewed did not publish a single all-India muhurat. The Sunday Guardian said puja timings may differ according to the local Panchang and regional customs, so devotees are advised to check timings for their own city.

  • Date: Monday, 12 October 2026 (Ashwin Shukla Dwitiya)
  • Goddess: Maa Brahmacharini, ascetic form of Parvati
  • Colour: white in most lists; royal blue in some
  • Naam mantra: Om Devi Brahmacharinyai Namah (The Economic Times)
  • Bhog: sugar or panchamrit, kept simple and sattvic (The Economic Times)

According to The Economic Times, devotees wake early and pray through the day. The beej mantra Hreem Shreem Ambikayai Namah is chanted 108 times, the report said.

Significance

The name Brahmacharini is read as “the one who practises penance”, The Daily Jagran reported. She is associated with patience, discipline, devotion and self-control.

Both The Economic Times and The Daily Jagran linked the goddess with the planet Mars (Mangal). The Daily Jagran said her worship is believed to ease the effects of Mangal Dosh. “Devotees across India pray to the goddess on this day for patience and strength,” The Economic Times wrote.
