Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has grossed more than ₹300 crore worldwide in its first three days, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. The action sequel, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, opened in cinemas on Thursday, 15 October, so its first full weekend is still in progress.

Day-wise figures in India

Sacnilk’s estimates, last updated on the evening of 18 October, put the film’s India net at ₹144.05 crore across all languages after Saturday.

  • Day 1 (Thursday, 15 October): ₹59.70 crore net
  • Day 2 (Friday, 16 October): ₹37.10 crore net
  • Day 3 (Saturday, 17 October): ₹47.25 crore net
  • India gross: ₹169 crore; overseas gross: ₹152 crore
  • Worldwide gross after three days: ₹321 crore

The tracker revises its estimates through the day, so the totals may change again as fresh data comes in.

Estimates vary between trackers

Bollywood Hungama reported a higher three-day worldwide total of ₹325 crore, built on ₹130 crore on the opening day, ₹85 crore on Friday and an early estimate of ₹110 crore for Saturday. The publication projected that Sunday could add more than ₹100 crore, taking the four-day extended opening weekend past ₹425 crore. It said that would be the largest opening weekend ever for a Tamil film and among the biggest in India overall.

The trade website also said the sequel was on course to challenge 2.0, another Rajinikanth film, for the title of the top-grossing Tamil film.

About the film

Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. As listed by The Week, new additions to the cast include S J Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan, with cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Hrithik Roshan and Vijay Sethupathi.

All figures above are estimates from trade sources; the producers have not released official numbers.
