Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped without a bullet wound after men on a motorcycle allegedly fired at his car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening, police said. Two other people were hurt in the attack, and a purported claim of responsibility made in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang is being examined by investigators but has not been confirmed.

What police have said

According to a police officer quoted by NDTV, the shooting took place at around 7 pm on 18 October, as the 36-year-old actor was heading out of Pushpa Park in Juhu following a game of football. Three men riding one motorcycle allegedly began shooting while he was stepping into his vehicle.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg said two people had been injured and that Shroff had not been hit by any bullet. The actor’s driver was reported to have suffered a wound to his left hand and was being treated at Nanavati Hospital, while a second man, Umesh Chavan, was taken to Cooper Hospital with a chest injury; hospital officials described his condition as stable, National Herald reported. Shroff himself reportedly sustained minor abrasions and gunpowder burns to his hand, and was discharged after treatment.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said five rounds had been fired at the actor’s BMW, according to the same report.

Investigation

Mumbai Police have set up 15 teams, drawn from the Crime Branch and local police stations, to trace the attackers. Investigators are going through CCTV footage from the surrounding area, while forensic and ballistics specialists gathered material such as empty cartridges at the scene. Investigators have also found a motorcycle the attackers are thought to have left behind in Andheri West, and one person has been held in Santacruz, although police have not disclosed who he is or what part he is suspected of playing. The motive has yet to be established, police said.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also the state’s home minister, called Shroff and directed Police Commissioner Deven Bharti to speed up the probe and deal firmly with the culprits.

Unverified gang claim

Hours after the incident, a social media post attributed to Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu, described in reports as associates of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed the shooting. The post alleged that the actor had ignored an earlier warning and threatened people in the film industry who work with Salman Khan, news agency IANS reported. An audio clip in which a man identifying himself as Pandit demands that Salman Khan apologise to Lawrence Bishnoi and the Bishnoi community has also circulated.

DCP Garg declined to comment on the claim, and police have neither verified the post nor confirmed any gang link.

The attack has revived concern in the film industry. Gunmen fired outside Salman Khan’s Bandra home in April 2024, and filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence was targeted in February this year. The opposition has criticised the state government over law and order.
