ColorOS 17 stable update arrives early for OnePlus 15 and Oppo Find X9 series in India

OnePlus and Oppo have started rolling out the Android 17-based ColorOS 17 stable update in India ahead of the 29 October date they had announced, starting with the OnePlus 15 and Find X9 series.

OnePlus and Oppo have begun pushing the stable version of ColorOS 17 to their top phones in India ahead of the schedule they had announced, cutting short the beta phase for some users. The OnePlus 15 and Oppo’s Find X9 series are the first to get the Android 17-based software.

The companies had earlier said the first devices would receive the update on 29 October. Instead, OnePlus confirmed on its community forum on Thursday, 22 October, that the rollout for the OnePlus 15 had started, and Oppo followed with confirmation for its flagships, according to Beebom and Gizmochina.

Which phones are getting it first

On the OnePlus side, only the OnePlus 15 is on the early list for now, and the release is limited to India. Gizmochina reports the firmware build as CPH2745_17.0.0.102(EX01).

Oppo has confirmed the update for the Find X9, Find X9 Pro, Find X9 Ultra and Find X9s, which are rolling out in India, Indonesia and Malaysia. The Find N6 foldable is getting it in Thailand. Oppo says the release begins in limited regions and will widen gradually. Realme, which also uses a ColorOS-based software skin, had not started its rollout at the time of reporting.

Download sizes depend on where users are coming from. Those already on the beta track need a patch of roughly 500 to 540 MB, while phones moving directly from ColorOS 16 face a download of about 3.4 to 3.5 GB.

Users can check for the update under Settings, then System and update, then Software update. Beebom notes that the update can also be pulled early by choosing a release candidate option from the three-dot menu on that screen, though it recommends waiting for the regular over-the-air push to avoid early bugs.

From beta to stable

The early stable release follows an open beta that ran in India earlier this month. Registrations were open from 9 to 12 October for a wider list of phones, including the OnePlus 15R, 13, 13s and 13R, Oppo’s Find X8 and Reno15 Pro models, and several realme GT handsets, according to Smartprix. Applicants had to answer a short quiz and slots were limited. That round had followed a smaller closed beta in August.

ColorOS 17 was first announced in China in September, and its global launch event was held on 13 October. Oppo and OnePlus have not shared exact stable dates for the other phones that took part in the beta, beyond a wider phase expected later this month.

What is new in ColorOS 17

The headline change is a redesigned visual style Oppo calls Living Flow, with translucent, glass-like elements and smoother animations. The Control Centre gets circular toggles and a revamped media player, and there are fresh lock screen clocks, home screen widgets and live lyrics on the lock screen.

Oppo is also claiming performance gains from a new rendering engine. Compared with ColorOS 16, it says runtime memory use is about 25 per cent lower and background app retention around 55 per cent better, with faster scrolling and app switching. These are company figures and have not been independently tested.

The update also brings more AI tools, including an AI call assistant and anti-fraud call alerts in a redesigned Phone app. Some features announced for China may not come to Indian units.
