Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh name second daughter Devi on Dussehra
The couple revealed the name of their second daughter, born on 19 September, with a first family photograph shared on Dussehra.

Bollywood couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh have named their second daughter Devi Padukone Singh, announcing the name on Dussehra, Tuesday, 20 October, along with the first family photograph that shows the newborn’s face.
The announcement, made through a joint post on Instagram, sent the actor’s name to the top of search trends in India over the past 24 hours. The baby girl was born on 19 September, which means the couple waited roughly a month before introducing her by name.
A family portrait on Dussehra
The picture shows the family of four in coordinated traditional outfits in shades of gold and ivory. Deepika holds the infant, while the couple’s elder daughter, Dua, bends towards the baby to plant a kiss. Ranveer is seen with Dua in the frame, according to descriptions published by NDTV and The Indian Express.
The caption was brief. It read “Of Love & Abundance” followed by the baby’s full name, written in both English and Devanagari script.
Several film personalities, among them Sharvari, Mrunal Thakur and Bhumi Pednekar, left congratulatory messages under the post, NDTV reported.
Why the name and the timing stood out
Devi is a Sanskrit word meaning goddess. In Hindu traditions it is also used for the divine feminine in her many forms. Firstpost noted that the choice of Dussehra for the reveal gave the name added resonance, since the festival is linked in different regions both to Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana and to Goddess Durga’s defeat of Mahishasura.
The couple followed a similar pattern with their first child. Dua was born on 8 September 2024, and her name was made public some weeks later. Deepika had then explained that the word means a prayer, describing the baby as an answer to the family’s prayers, The Indian Express recalled.
The second pregnancy was announced on 19 April 2026 in a shared social media post in which Dua was seen holding a positive pregnancy test, the newspaper added. The birth itself was announced on 19 September with a post showing the newborn’s footprint and the words “Welcome baby girl!”, signed by Deepika, Ranveer and Dua, according to Firstpost.
Work commitments ahead
Deepika continued working through much of her pregnancy. Citing a report by Variety India, The Indian Express said she kept shooting for her next film, Raaka, into her third trimester so that the schedule would not slip before her maternity break.
Raaka is a science-fiction action film directed by Atlee and produced by Sun Pictures, with Allu Arjun in the lead alongside Deepika. It is Allu Arjun’s first film with the director and reunites Deepika with Atlee after Jawan.
Ranveer, for his part, is expected to return to the sets of the zombie thriller Pralay, directed by Jai Mehta, towards the end of October after a break following the birth, the report said. It will be his first film in that genre.
A largely private family life
The two actors met while working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela in 2013. They were married on 14 November 2018 at Lake Como in Italy, in ceremonies that reflected Deepika’s Konkani roots and Ranveer’s Sindhi background.
Since becoming parents, the couple have shared only occasional glimpses of their children. Tuesday’s photograph was the first public look at Devi.
