Net direct tax collections rise 13.21% to ₹13.38 lakh crore so far in 2026-27
Income Tax Department data shows net direct tax receipts up to 14 October grew 13.21 per cent, led by corporate tax, non-corporate tax and STT.

The Centre’s net direct tax receipts in 2026-27 have reached ₹13.38 lakh crore up to 14 October, a rise of 13.21 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous financial year, according to Income Tax Department data released on Thursday, 15 October.
In the same window last year, net collections had stood at about ₹11.82 lakh crore. Higher receipts from companies, from non-corporate taxpayers and from the Securities Transaction Tax (STT) powered the increase, DD India reported.
Gross collections and refunds
Before refunds, gross direct tax collections rose 14.89 per cent to ₹16.03 lakh crore, compared with ₹13.95 lakh crore a year ago. Refunds paid out by the department climbed faster, growing 24.22 per cent to ₹2.65 lakh crore from about ₹2.13 lakh crore, which partly offset the gross gains.
- Net direct tax: ₹13.38 lakh crore (up 13.21 per cent)
- Gross direct tax: ₹16.03 lakh crore (up 14.89 per cent)
- Refunds: ₹2.65 lakh crore (up 24.22 per cent)
Break-up by tax type
Net corporate tax receipts came in at about ₹5.99 lakh crore, compared with nearly ₹4.97 lakh crore in the matching period of 2025-26. On a gross basis, corporate tax rose to ₹7.53 lakh crore from ₹6.44 lakh crore.
Net non-corporate tax, a category covering individuals, Hindu Undivided Families, firms and other entities, stood at about ₹6.92 lakh crore against ₹6.54 lakh crore a year earlier. Gross non-corporate collections were ₹8.03 lakh crore, up from ₹7.20 lakh crore. Refunds to non-corporate taxpayers rose sharply to about ₹1.11 lakh crore from roughly ₹66,550 crore, according to the figures reported by ANI.
- STT collections: ₹46,840.43 crore, up from ₹30,901.81 crore
- Corporate tax refunds: about ₹1.54 lakh crore, against ₹1.47 lakh crore last year
The data released by the department does not give a separate figure for personal income tax, which is counted within the non-corporate head. The reports did not compare the collections with the Budget estimate for the year.
Refunds outpace gross growth
The faster rise in refunds meant that the growth in net collections, at about 13 per cent, trailed the near-15 per cent increase in gross receipts. Corporate refunds grew only modestly, while refunds to non-corporate taxpayers rose by roughly two-thirds over the same period last year, according to the department’s figures.
