Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has crossed Rs 400 crore net in India in 12 days, according to estimates from box office tracker Sacnilk. The Nelson Dilipkumar action film, produced by Sun Pictures, earned an estimated Rs 9.45 crore net in India on Monday, 26 October, its 12th day. Sacnilk puts its India net total at Rs 408.15 crore and its worldwide gross at Rs 733.35 crore.

All the figures below are Sacnilk estimates, compiled from industry sources, and have not been confirmed by the producers. Sacnilk notes that its numbers can differ from official figures, and it revises them as fuller data comes in. Day 12 in particular is an early estimate.

The numbers so far

Sacnilk’s latest tally, as of 26 October, is:

  • India net: Rs 408.15 crore
  • India gross: Rs 477.85 crore
  • Overseas gross: Rs 255.50 crore
  • Worldwide gross: Rs 733.35 crore

The film released on Thursday, 15 October. Sacnilk counts an extended eight-day first week, which brought in Rs 334.35 crore net in India. The film opened with Rs 59.70 crore on day 1 and earned Rs 55.85 crore on its first Sunday.

Second weekend and the Monday drop

Collections fell to Rs 17.15 crore on day 8 and Rs 14.50 crore on Friday, 23 October, then recovered over the second weekend, according to Sacnilk. The film earned Rs 24.15 crore on Saturday and Rs 25.70 crore on Sunday, 25 October, for a weekend total of Rs 64.35 crore. On Sunday, Sacnilk tracked about 11,950 shows at 38% occupancy and estimated a footfall of around 17.5 lakh for the day.

On Monday, the first weekday after its second weekend, the India net fell to an estimated Rs 9.45 crore. Filmibeat, citing Sacnilk, said that was a drop of about 63% from Sunday, with overall occupancy of around 20% across about 10,450 shows. A sharp fall on the first weekday after a weekend is common for big releases.

Language-wise split

The Tamil original accounts for most of the business. Of the Rs 398.70 crore India net through day 11, Sacnilk attributes about Rs 279.30 crore to Tamil, Rs 75.25 crore to Telugu, Rs 38.55 crore to Hindi and Rs 5.60 crore to Kannada. The Hindi version has had the lowest occupancy of the four, at about 21%. On Monday, Tamil brought in an estimated Rs 5.65 crore, Telugu Rs 2 crore, Hindi Rs 1.40 crore and Kannada Rs 40 lakh, according to Filmibeat.

Record claims

NewsX reported on 26 October that, with its worldwide total passing Rs 710 crore by day 11, Jailer 2 had overtaken the reported worldwide gross of Rs 691 crore for Rajinikanth’s 2.0 (2018), making it the highest-grossing Tamil film. NewsX did not give a source for the 2.0 figure, and published estimates of that film’s lifetime gross vary. The claim should be read in that light. The producers have not announced any record.

How the estimates move

Readers should treat early daily numbers with caution. Sacnilk’s day 11 overseas figure, for example, rose from about Rs 243.50 crore, as reported by Filmibeat and NewsX on Monday morning, to Rs 253 crore in a later update, before the day 12 total of Rs 255.50 crore. Earlier daily figures quoted by The Week on 22 October also differ from Sacnilk’s current day-wise table. The Week reported the film’s budget at an estimated Rs 240–300 crore.

The sequel to the 2023 hit Jailer stars Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, alongside Ramya Krishnan, S J Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan and Suraj Venjaramoodu, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. Weekday collections this week will show how much it has left in its run.
