RJ Mitte, the American actor best known for playing Walter White Jr. in the AMC series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34, his representatives said in a statement on Monday, 12 October, according to ABC7 Los Angeles and TheWrap.

The statement spoke of “the tragic passing” of “beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte”, TheWrap reported. ABC7 reported the same statement from his representative.

Cause of death not released

Searches for the cause of Mitte’s death have trended online in India, but no cause has been made public. Both ABC7 and TheWrap reported that the cause of death was not immediately released. Neither report stated where or exactly when he died. Readers should treat claims about the cause circulating on social media with caution until his family or representatives make an official statement.

Known for Walter White Jr. and disability advocacy

Mitte appeared in all five seasons of Breaking Bad, created by Vince Gilligan, as the son of Bryan Cranston’s chemistry teacher-turned-drug manufacturer Walter White, according to the reports. Like his character, Mitte had cerebral palsy, and he used his public profile to raise awareness about the condition.

Key facts from the reports:

  • Age: 34
  • Best-known role: Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad (all five seasons)
  • Other credits: Switched at Birth, The Guardians of Justice and The Oak Room, according to ABC7
  • Advocacy: ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and president of The Mitte Foundation, ABC7 reported

Earlier in October, Mitte appeared on the Joe Vulpis Podcast, where he described his Breaking Bad audition as “one of the longest auditions of my life”, according to ABC7. He said he was one of the last main cast members to be added to the show and had already missed the cast dinner, the report added.

In October 2025, Mitte proposed to Kennedy Suarez, his girlfriend of five years, and told People that she was his “everything”, ABC7 reported.

TheWrap noted that Mitte attended the premiere of Animals In War at the 2025 Tribeca Festival in New York on 8 June 2025.

Further details, including funeral arrangements, had not been announced at the time of writing.
