The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is set to declare the result of the CA Intermediate examination held in September 2026 on Thursday, 22 October. As of Thursday morning the scorecards had not gone live, and education portals tracking the announcement said the result is expected in the evening.

The release date was fixed through an ICAI notice dated 14 October. The institute has not specified an exact time, so candidates are advised to keep checking the official websites through the day rather than rely on unconfirmed timings circulating on social media.

Where and how to check the result

Once declared, results will be available on the ICAI results portal, caresults.icai.org, with notices also posted on the institute’s main website, icai.org. Candidates will need two details to log in:

  • their ICAI registration number, and
  • their roll number for the September 2026 examination,

along with a captcha code if prompted. After logging in, candidates should select the CA Intermediate September 2026 link, submit their details, and download or save a copy of the scorecard showing paper-wise marks and qualifying status. Heavy traffic is common on result day, so those who find the site slow are advised to try again after some time.

Requests for verification of marks and for certified copies of answer books are handled through ICAI’s e-services portal, eservices.icai.org. Reports note that the verification window usually stays open for about a month after results are declared.

Pass criteria and exemptions

To clear a group of the CA Intermediate course, a candidate must score at least 40 per cent in each paper of that group and an aggregate of at least 50 per cent across the group. The course has six papers split into two groups, and candidates may write one or both groups in a session.

A candidate who fails a group but secures 60 marks or more in an individual paper is granted an exemption in that paper, which, as per reports, can be carried for the next three examinations.

Toppers and pass percentage

ICAI usually publishes group-wise pass percentages and an all-India merit list of toppers along with the results. These figures for the September 2026 session will be known only once the result is out, and this story will be updated accordingly.

For reference, the pass rates in the previous session, May 2026, were low. According to figures cited by EduProspect and CareerIndia, 10.25 per cent of candidates cleared Group I, 16.11 per cent cleared Group II, and only 8.47 per cent of those who wrote both groups passed both. Shardul Shekhar Vichare topped that session with 531 out of 600 marks.

What comes next

Candidates who do not clear the September attempt will not have long to wait. The next CA Intermediate examination is scheduled for January 2027, with Group I papers on 2, 4 and 6 January and Group II papers on 8, 10 and 12 January, in a 2 pm to 5 pm slot. The examination form window is expected to open on 3 November and close on 16 November without a late fee.

Successful candidates can proceed towards the CA Final stage, subject to meeting ICAI’s eligibility conditions.
