Weather Today, 5 November: Murasu Fizzles Into a Low, but Rain Alert Stays for Tamil Nadu and Andhra
The remnant of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu has weakened over Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh; IMD warns of thunderstorms in Tamil Nadu until 8 November, while Delhi stays dry.

Cyclone Murasu, which crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast earlier this week, has run out of steam over land, but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) says rain and thunderstorms will continue across parts of south India for the next few days.
Where Murasu is now
The remnant of the Severe Cyclonic Storm weakened into a depression over east Telangana and neighbouring coastal Andhra Pradesh by early Wednesday, 4 November. At that time it was centred about 30 km south of Khammam and 80 km north-west of Vijayawada, moving north at about 10 km/h, and IMD said it would weaken further into a well-marked low-pressure area within 12 hours. Doppler radars at Machilipatnam and Visakhapatnam were tracking it.
The storm disrupted rail traffic, with services on the Vijayawada–Ongole–Gudur section temporarily suspended and 29 trains affected. Passengers have been advised to check train status on NTES, RailOne or the 139 helpline before travelling.
Rain outlook
- Andhra Pradesh: heavy rain was forecast in Bapatla, Guntur, Krishna, Palnadu, NTR, Eluru and West Godavari districts.
- Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal: thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 km/h (up to 60 km/h) until 8 November, with heavy rain at isolated places on 6 and 7 November.
- Rayalaseema: thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30-40 km/h.
- Goa, North Interior Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh: light to isolated rain.
- Himachal Pradesh: a western disturbance may bring light snow to Kinnaur, Shimla and Lahaul-Spiti.
North India stays dry
Delhi is expected to see partly cloudy skies with no rain warning, and Punjab and Haryana should stay largely dry. In West Bengal, night temperatures are forecast to fall by 3-4°C over the next three days, a sign that winter is setting in.
