Dhanteras Gold Rate Today, 6 November: Gold Turns Cheaper as Buyers Head to Jewellers

MCX gold fell about ₹2,400 per 10 grams on Dhanteras morning. Retail 24K rates were quoted between roughly ₹1.43 lakh and ₹1.46 lakh per 10 grams depending on the tracker and city.

Gold prices eased on Friday, giving some relief to families buying the metal on Dhanteras, the first day of the five-day Diwali festival. The fall came after a sharp rise on Thursday, with traders booking profits and the US dollar firming.

MCX futures

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for December delivery traded around ₹1,41,700 per 10 grams on Friday morning, down ₹2,395 (about 1.7%) from the previous close of ₹1,44,095. The day’s range was roughly ₹1,41,570 to ₹1,42,601.

Retail rates (indicative)

Retail quotes differ by tracker, city and time of day, so buyers should check with their jeweller:

  • Goodreturns (via Upstox): 24K at ₹14,346 per gram (down ₹256), 22K at ₹13,150 (down ₹235) and 18K at ₹10,759 (down ₹193).
  • Early-morning city benchmarks (via The Sunday Guardian): 24K at ₹1,46,020 per 10 grams and 22K at ₹1,33,850 in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata; Delhi and Lucknow slightly higher at ₹1,46,170 (24K) and ₹1,34,000 (22K).

The final bill for jewellery will be higher once making charges and GST are added.

A year of gains

Even after the dip, gold is far dearer than last Dhanteras. MCX gold was near ₹1,27,000 per 10 grams on Dhanteras 2025, against about ₹1,42,000 now. Spot gold abroad was hovering near $4,060 an ounce in early Friday trade.

What jewellers expect

The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council expects Dhanteras sales to rise 20–30% in value, though volumes are likely to stay flat as shoppers choose lighter pieces and smaller purchases. The World Gold Council’s India head said the recent correction has encouraged families with upcoming weddings to buy early.

Before you buy

  • Check the BIS hallmark and six-digit HUID on jewellery.
  • Compare making charges, which can change the final price a lot.
  • Ask about the jeweller’s exchange and buy-back terms.
  • Buy only what fits your budget; Dhanteras is about tradition, not a compulsion.

Rates are indicative and change through the day. This is not investment advice.
