Amitabh Bachchan, one of the most active celebrities on Indian social media, has told followers he will be stepping away from posting for a few days after being advised to rest.

The 84-year-old actor shared the update on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, 21 October, and followed it with a short entry on his long-running personal blog. The posts quickly set off a wave of get-well messages from fans.

What Bachchan wrote

In his post on X, Bachchan began with an apology and asked for his followers’ forgiveness, explaining that he had been “advised to take some time off for a few days to rest and recuperate”. He added that he would not be able to write for the time being. The message was posted in both English and Hindi.

On his blog, the actor extended Dussehra greetings and said he was “under very strict rest and recuperation”, which meant he was not permitted to communicate for now. He also apologised to those who had sent him personal wishes, asking them to treat the blog entry as his reply, and signed off with a hope of writing more later.

No details on health

Bachchan did not specify any medical condition, and none of the reports reviewed by The Daily Rostrum carried a statement from his family, his team or any hospital. Kerala Kaumudi reported that the advice to rest came from doctors. There was no indication of how long the break would last beyond his own reference to “a few days”.

Some headlines have described the pause as a social media break, but the actor’s own words point to a short spell of medical rest rather than a decision to quit online platforms. Neither post suggested any change to his professional commitments, and the reports did not mention any cancelled shoots or appearances.

The update came only days after Bachchan was seen greeting crowds outside his residence during his customary Sunday darshan, the weekly meet-and-greet in which he waves to admirers gathered at the gate.

Fans send prayers

Comment sections under his post filled with prayers and wishes for a quick recovery, according to ANI and Asianet Newsable. No public reactions from fellow film personalities had been reported at the time of writing.

The announcement stands out because Bachchan is among the most regular posters in Indian cinema, sharing thoughts with followers on both X and his personal blog. A pause of even a few days is therefore unusual for him, which explains the volume of concerned responses.

Professionally, Bachchan has remained busy. Kerala Kaumudi noted that he is hosting the 18th season of the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, and that his recent screen appearances include the Prabhas-led Kalki 2898 AD.

The Daily Rostrum will update this story if Bachchan or his representatives share further information about his health.
