BRP strips Navjot Kaur Sidhu of party posts on health grounds, gives Punjab charge to Grewal

Citing her health, the Bharatiya Rashtravadi Party on 15 October removed Navjot Kaur Sidhu from her roles as national general secretary and Punjab in-charge and put national vice-president Grewal in charge of Punjab.

Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu no longer holds any organisational role in the Bharatiya Rashtravadi Party (BRP), which has removed her as both national general secretary and Punjab in-charge, Amar Ujala and Deshbandhu reported. Manoj Chaubey, who is the party’s national secretary and headquarters in-charge, made the decision public in a statement on Thursday, 15 October.

According to the reports, Sidhu, whose husband Navjot Singh Sidhu is a former Punjab Congress president, quit the Congress and moved to the BRP in April 2026.

Health given as the reason

Amar Ujala reported that the party attributed the step to Sidhu’s present state of health and concern for her well-being, and rejected any suggestion of a political motive. Both reports said the BRP described her experience and guidance as valuable and said her links with the party would continue to matter. Sidhu’s own reaction did not appear in either report.

Who takes over in Punjab

Responsibility for Punjab now rests with Grewal of Bhukdi Kalan, the party’s national vice-president. The reports differ on his first name, which Deshbandhu gave as Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal and Amar Ujala as Sukhwinderpal Singh Grewal. According to Deshbandhu, the party said it made the appointment to build up its Punjab unit and add new energy to its political work.

  • Roles Sidhu has lost: national general secretary; Punjab in-charge
  • Statement from: the party’s headquarters in-charge and national secretary, Manoj Chaubey
  • Joined the BRP: April 2026
  • Electoral plans: Deshbandhu reported that the BRP is getting ready to field candidates in all 117 Punjab Assembly seats

Earlier developments

Amar Ujala reported that until last year Sidhu was with the Congress, when she claimed that the party’s chief minister post was up for sale for ₹500 crore. She later quit the Congress. After joining the BRP, she posted on social media that she would strive to win back the dignity Punjab had lost, the report said.

In its statement, as carried by both outlets, the party argued that Punjab required firm leadership, steady work at the grassroots and a political alternative people could trust.
