Bengaluru and Goa are set to get a direct Vande Bharat Express after the Railway Board approved a new chair-car service between Yesvantpur and Madgaon on 30 October. The train will take the scenic but long route across the Western Ghats and down the coast via Mangaluru, covering the journey in about 13 hours.

Timings

  • 26655 Yesvantpur–Madgaon: leaves at 7:35 am, reaches at 8:55 pm (about 13 hours 20 minutes). Runs daily except Wednesday.
  • 26656 Madgaon–Yesvantpur: leaves at 8:20 am, reaches at 9:15 pm (about 12 hours 55 minutes). Runs daily except Thursday.

Stops

Shravanabelagola, Hassan, Sakleshpur, Subrahmanya Road, Kabaka Puttur, Mangaluru Junction, Udupi, Kundapura, Mookambika Road (Byndoor), Murdeshwar, Gokarna Road, Karwar and Thokur.

Why it is being talked about

At around 13 hours, the run is unusually long for a Vande Bharat chair-car service, and the slow climb through the Western Ghats is a big part of that. Still, the service gives a single daytime connection between Karnataka’s capital, the temple and beach towns of coastal Karnataka, and Goa.

Start date and fare

No official start date has been announced, though the service is expected to begin later in November. Fares have not been notified either; early estimates put AC Chair Car tickets roughly between ₹700 and ₹1,800, and Executive Chair Car between ₹1,300 and ₹3,200.
